Position Summary
Turret Lathe Specialists (TLS) is seeking an experienced CNC Grinder to join our precision manufacturing team. This position is responsible for setting up and operating multiple CNC grinding machines, including ID and OD grinders, to produce high-precision aerospace and industrial components.
The ideal candidate is a self-motivated machinist with strong grinding experience who can efficiently manage multiple machines, maintain tight tolerances, and consistently produce quality parts in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
CNC Grinding Operations
- Set up and operate CNC ID and OD grinding machines.
- Supertec EGI-150CNC Universal ID/OD Grinder (Fanuc Controls)
- Toyota CNC OD Grinder
- Okamoto OGM12-20UNC III CNC Universal Grinder
- Operate manual ID and OD grinding equipment as required.
- Run multiple grinding machines simultaneously while maintaining quality and productivity.
- Perform precision grinding to blueprint specifications, including close tolerances, surface finish, concentricity, and roundness requirements.
- Select appropriate grinding wheels, tooling, fixtures, and workholding for each job.
- Make machine offsets and adjustments to maintain part quality throughout production.
- Troubleshoot machining and grinding issues to minimize downtime.
Blueprint Interpretation & Quality Control
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, GD&T, and work instructions.
- Perform first article, in-process, and final inspections using precision measuring equipment including:
- Micrometers
- Bore gauges
- Indicators
- Calipers
- Height gauges
- Other precision inspection tools
- Accurately complete inspection reports, travelers, and production documentation.
- Ensure all work meets customer quality requirements and company standards.
Production & Efficiency
- Prioritize workload to maximize machine utilization and meet production schedules.
- Monitor multiple jobs while maintaining efficiency and attention to detail.
- Identify opportunities to improve setup time, cycle time, tooling, and overall process efficiency.
- Communicate production status and any machining issues with supervisors and team members.
Equipment & Safety
- Perform routine machine maintenance and daily preventative maintenance.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
- Follow all company safety policies and quality procedures.
- Properly care for company tooling, fixtures, and inspection equipment.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of CNC grinding experience (ID and/or OD grinding preferred).
- Experience setting up and operating CNC grinding machines.
- Experience with Fanuc controls preferred.
- Strong understanding of grinding principles, wheel selection, feeds, speeds, and workholding.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and GD&T.
- Experience holding tight tolerances in a precision manufacturing environment.
- Proficient with precision measuring equipment.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
- High attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to safely lift up to 50 pounds.
- Willingness to work overtime and weekends as production demands require.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience grinding aerospace components.
- Experience with Supertec CNC grinders.
- Experience with both CNC and manual grinding machines.
- Familiarity with ISO 9001 and/or AS9100 quality systems.
- Experience operating multiple machines simultaneously in a production environment.
